Halff Honored with APWA Project of the Year Award
RICHARDSON, Texas — Halff’s Bastrop State Park Dam project was selected by the American Public Works Association (APWA) as the Public Works Project of the Year in the Historical Restoration/Preservation category for projects between $5 million and $25 million.
The APWA Public Works Project of the Year Award promotes excellence in public works projects by recognizing collaboration among the managing agency, the consultant/architect/engineer and the contractor, who work together to complete public works projects. A project qualifies in the Historical Restoration/Preservation category if it includes historical restoration, preservation or adaptive reuse of existing buildings, structures or facilities that are at least 75 years old.
After the Bastrop State Park Dam embankment failed in 2015, Halff and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) worked together on the Buescher State Park Lake Dam Rehabilitation, including the reconstruction and slope stabilization of the dam.
The national recognition joins the growing list of awards Bastrop State Park Dam has earned, including the 2024 APWA Texas chapter Project of the Year, another national recognition from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and a gold medal from ACEC Texas.
In addition to this year’s recognition, Halff previously won two APWA national awards: the East Austin Emergency Utility Repair in 2023 and the Leon County Cascades Park in 2015. As a firm, Halff has won nine national honors, with six of those coming in the last three years.
